Major renovations to facilities at Hamilton Lake Domain
Amenities at the Hamilton Lake Domain are set for a major upgrade with the toilet block on the eastern (Waikato Hospital) side of the domain currently closed for complete refurbishment, which will include new toilet and bathroom facilities, a sail shade and covered picnic area.
Sally Sheedy, Hamilton City Council's Parks and Open Spaces Manager, says the refit reflects the Council's desire to continually improve one of the city's most popular parks.
Sheedy stated "Hamilton Lake Domain is one of our main destination parks, and we want to make sure the facilities meet the needs of the growing numbers of residents and visitors who enjoy the park.
"The building footprint will remain the same, but it's going to be completely new on the inside - this will be an extensive renovation. There will be some disruption, but we're confident the results will please people who visit the destination playground and the Domain once works are completed. "
The work will cause some disruption, and in the first two weeks of May the enclosed junior playground area at the park will be unavailable while contractors carry out initial interior demolition work.
The entire block will be fenced off for the duration of the project, with a portable toilet unit available on site while works are completed. Alternative toilets for park users are located near the picnic lawn car park on the same side of the park, and also on the opposite side of the park near Innes Common.
