Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre welcomes its 500,000th visitor
Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre last week welcomed its 500,000 patron.
Maraja Whytenberg, 91, received a bouquet of flowers and complimentary tickets as she entered the centre to attend the popular 'Morning Melodies' performances.
Since adding the Convention Centre to the Entertainment Centre and opening what is now known the MECC in July 2009, over 160,000 people have visited the facility per annum. 2012 has proved to be a bumper year for the MECC with visitations rapidly increasing largely thanks to the 25,000 people who came ice skating.
Convention Precinct and Events Manager Mark Fawcett said it was exciting to welcome visitor number 500,000 to the MECC in less than three years operation.
Fawcett explained "it was quite special that visitor number 500,000 was attending Morning Melodies, one of our most popular programs much loved by the community."
