Lockdowns force VMA to cancel 2021 Venue Management School
The Board of the Venue Management Association (Asia and Pacific) [VMA] have advised that they have made the "difficult decision" to cancel the 2021 Venue Management School and Leadership Institute scheduled for November.
In coming to the decision to cancel the program for a second year, VMA Chair Leighton Wood noted "unfortunately, given the current COVID – related restrictions affecting many parts of Australia and New Zealand, we have reached the conclusion that delivering this year’s School is no longer viable.
“In opening enrolments for the School a few months back, we recognised the need to remain positive and to deliver what is our flagship educational program in support of our great industry. The last two months has seen a marked deterioration in our ability to bring our students together this year, and having taken on feedback from many of our key stakeholders, as well as assessing the risks associated with the current spate of lockdowns and travel restrictions, we were unfortunately left with no other choice.”
VMS Chair, Wayne Middleton CVE summed up the sentiments of the VMS Committee adding "this great program has been a key part of the venue management industry for over 27 years.
"The School has played an important role for so many people’s career, including my own and our fantastic Instructor group who bring an amazing amount of passion and energy to the student experience each year.
“We considered all alternative delivery options, however, as an immersive learning experience the School offers a combination of formal education as well as networking and mentoring outcomes, something that cannot be fully experienced or replicated in a digital only environment. We are disappointed we have had to cancel again but we know we will be back next year, ready to support our industry and deliver this great program for tomorrow’s leaders."
The VMA will soon announce an alternative short form program offered during the traditional School week in November, to keep current and potential students engaged.
