LIWA Aquatics connects with the Wheatbelt at Kulin regional seminar

LIWA Aquatics has shared the success of its recent Regional WA Aquatic Recreation Seminar, held last week in the Wheatbelt town of Kulin.

It had been 10 years since LIWA Aquatics had staged an event in the town, when it visited the town for the re-opening of the refurbished Freebairn Recreation Centre.

The Centre, renowned for having the biggest waterslide in regional Western Australia (182 metres long and 18 metres high), which attracts many surrounding locals and tourists of during the summer months, has long been acknowledged as a key element in the town’s prosperity

Returning for its 26th Annual Regional Seminar was on 27th October, LIWA Aquatics welcomed 30 registered delegates from around the regions attending for a day of networking and collaboration.

The day started with introductions and a review of the State of the Industry report by LIWA Aquatics President Nick Wilkinson.

LIWA Aquatics board member Billy Vibart travelled from Esperance to present and facilitate an open forum session around Staffing, Training, and Mentoring in Regional Areas. 

Kulin Aquatic Manager Mark Gillbard then took the group on a facility tour to highlight the current works being done on the Kulin pool and waterslide.

After lunch, Erin Vis and Tammy Wynne from Water Corporation provided delegates with Waterwise Program updates and insights to the benefits of being a Waterwise aquatic facility.

In the afternoon, LIWA Aquatics presented a 10-year industry service award to Shaun Franich from Kondinin Aquatic Centre.

The day finished with further networking and open floor discussions around our industry moving forward, LIWA Aquatics current involvement for advocacy and development in future programs and events.

LIWA Executive Officer, Steve Good noted “it is always great to get out to the regions to meet with our members face to face to ‘maintain and support the network’ throughout WA.”

Good also thanked partners and supporters Royal Life Saving WA, the Western Australian Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, the Shire of Kulin, Water Corporation, Fluidra, Poolshop Online, Sigma Chemicals and International Quadratics.
