Live Performance Australia welcomes consultation on ticket reselling
Live Performance Australia has welcomed the release of a consultation paper by the Commonwealth Treasury on ticket reselling.
Commenting on the consultation, Live Performance Australia (LPA) Chief Executive Evelyn Richardson advised “we welcome the Treasury initiative in seeking views about options to deliver a better outcome for consumers, particularly when it comes to ticket reselling practices.”
The Treasury Consultation Regulation Impact Statement puts forward five options for consideration, ranging from the status quo with consumer education through to improved information disclosure arrangements for ticket resellers and a national ban on the use of ticket buying bot software.
LPA will make a submission as part of the consultation process and is urging industry participants and consumers to also use the consultation process to ensure their concerns and experiences are heard.
Richardson (pictured above) added “LPA will continue to support industry-wide initiatives to help educate consumers about the risks of the ticket resale market, such as through our Safe Tix Guide which contains a number of practical tips on avoiding ticketing scams.
“It is encouraging to see the Commonwealth Government paying more attention to this issue, in addition to measures recently announced by state governments in New South Wales and Victoria.
“Fans and the industry will be looking for a coordinated and effective approach from all levels of government to ensure a fairer market for tickets to our most popular shows and greater transparency and consumer protections in the resale market.”
The consultation paper is available on the Treasury website and submissions close on 15th December 2017.
Submissions can be made online at www.treasury.gov.au/consultation.
