Little Athletics among COVIDSafe sport and recreation activities returning to Geelong
The resumption of Little Athletics follows a range of junior outdoor sports including netball, tennis, cricket and soccer that are safely returning in Geelong.
Young competitors will be tearing up athletics tracks across Geelong this weekend, as further COVID-safe sport and recreation activities return to the region.
Geelong Little Athletics (John Landy Athletics Field) and Corio Little Athletics (Goldsworthy Reserve) commence their 2020-21 track and field seasons at City venues on Saturday 14th November 2020.
Greater Geelong Chief Executive, Martin Cutter notes “a wide range of outdoor activities have been able to kick off under COVIDSafe plans that are in line with Directions and have been reviewed and approved by the City.
“It is great to see kids getting back into their favourite sports, having fun with friends and improving their skills. It is important that all activities are carried out in a safe and cautious way so that COVID-19 case numbers remain low throughout the summer.
Under City-approved COVIDSafe plans that adhere to current restrictions on sport and exercise activities in Victoria, the athletics clubs can operate subject to:
A maximum of ten athletes participating in an individual event at a time;
A “reasonable distance” being maintained between each group;
Sanitising any shared equipment before and after use;
All attendees 12 years of age and older wearing a face mask, unless they are competing;
Clubrooms remaining closed.
Only participants and parents/guardians can attend, with visitors not allowed.
The City of Greater Geelong has also begun offering indoor recreation activities at its Swim, Sport and Leisure Centres, with lap swimming, gyms and group exercise on offer from last Friday.
Non-contact indoor sport has also resumed for those aged 18 years and under, with Leisuretime Sports Precinct among the stadiums to reopen.
