Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia revive plans for closer links

On-again, off-again plans for Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia to work more closely together have been revived with both organisations having recommitted to their desire for the delivery of Athletics as a united sport.

As announced today, the both Boards of both organisaitons have committed to working together for the betterment of the long-term future of the sport and to removing the barriers to growing and retaining participation across all ages.

Speaking of the commitment, Little Athletics Australia Chief Executive, Martin Stillman advised “it’s tremendous that Coles Little Athletics Australia and Athletics Australia have signed off on the principles for ‘One Sport’ with both organisations being committed to the delivery of athletics as a united sport across the country.

“With both LAA and AA working together eliminating barriers to athlete participation and retention, the long-term future of athletics in Australia is extremely healthy.”

In making this commitment, the Boards have agreed to establish a formal working group to identify and agree on a set of principles to guide the purpose and process; and  short- and medium-term initiatives required to activate the principles.

Athletics Australia Chief Executive Darren Gocher added “together with LAA, we will redevelop a joint vision and alignment of strategic planning to drive the sport of Athletics forward.

“We are really looking forward to unifying and working collaboratively and our Member Associations and Partners to grow the sport together.”
