Light Show and Award for WetSide Water Education Park
Hervey Bay's WetSide Water Education Park is set to host a 'Light Show Spectacular' on the evenings of 1st and 2nd October.
The sold-out gala events include a light and music show, a smorgasbord feast from Hervey Bayâs new George's Restaurant, live entertainment, roving entertainers, jumping castle, face-painting and licensed bar.
The WetSide Water Education Park's its water conservation message and practices has also helped Hervey Bay win a 'Tidy Towns' award.
Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland, Chief Executive Rick Burnett believes WetSide is a monument to the water conservation and recycling carried out by Wide Bay Water Corporation across the city, stating "WetSide is a fun, free, eco-friendly public space designed around water infotainment - which means water information delivered in a fun, activity-based way.
"This kind of learning is both popular and effective.
"As you walk around the timber boardwalks of WetSide Water Education Park you will literally encounter hundreds of water messages.
"They're easy to read and designed in a drip-feed fashion."
Wide Bay Water's acting Chief Executive Peter Care said the corporation was elated to receive the award and the attention it brought to the region, commenting "WetSide was the centrepiece of our submission, with Fraser Coast Regional Council, and it was supported by the network of innovative water practices which now underpin Hervey Bay."
Care said one of the initiatives was a reuse scheme which saw nearly all of Hervey Bay's wastewater recycled on to agriculture and hardwood tree plantations, adding "our efforts to put water waste to good use must have impressed the judges and weâre very pleased with the win."
The WetSide Water Education Park is featured in the September/October 2010 issue of Australasian Leisure Management.
