Libby Trickett to back swimming in Western Australia
The Western Australian Swimming Association Inc. has announced that former Australian swimming champion Libby Trickett has become the latest member of the Swimming WA Ambassador program.
Having engaged the services of Dawn Fraser and Blair Evans as Ambassadors to promote the sport of swimming across Western Australia in 2016, for the 2017 swimming season the program has been expanded.
With Fraser and Evans seen to have been outstanding in their roles, increasing the profile and level of interest in swimming in Western Australia, Swimming WA has now increased its ambassadors from tow to four with current champion swimmer Tommaso D’Orsogna who is relocating from Queensland back home to Western Australia this month joining Trickett.
Trickett (pictured) was a gold medalist at the 2004, 2008 and the 2012 Olympics and was a world record holder in the short-course (25m) 100-metre freestyle.
Announcing the arrival of Trickett and D’Orsogna as ambassadors, Swimming WA President Louis van Aardt stated “Swimming WA is incredibly proud to announce Libby Trickett OAM as an ambassador for Western Australian swimming.
“(She) is a household name in Australia and everyone will recall her feats across three consecutive Olympic Games in Athens, Beijing and London, winning an incredible four gold medals during her illustrious career.
“Furthermore, Libby is a champion of community initiatives and the work being undertaken at Swimming WA will benefit from her profile and her ideas on how best to grow and retain participation in swimming.
“We are also thrilled that favourite son Tommaso D’Orsogna is coming home and as a current swimmer, will work with Blair Evans to ensure Swimming WA has a genuine connection with the swimming community right across Western Australia.
“In addition, Dawn Fraser AO MBE will continue her work from last year with a focus this year on regional swimming in Western Australia. All in all, to have four (4) high calibre Ambassadors involved with Swimming WA is something we are genuinely excited about,” he said.
Welcoming her role as a Swimming WA Ambassador, Trickett added “‘I am absolutely thrilled to help promote swimming in WA. I am incredibly passionate about swimming and I’m really excited to encourage everyone to get involved regardless of age or level of ability.”
Trickett will travel to Perth in March for a series of media and corporate engagements.
She is also an Ambassadors for the Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA).
