Report shows Sydney as Australia’s top business tourism destination
Sydney has been revealed as the most visited city in Australia for business travellers, according to data from travel technology company Locomote.
Locomote, which manages the corporate travel of more than 100,000 employees across the country, has revealed Sydney is the top destination for business travel, accounting for one in five (20%) of all corporate flights booked. Melbourne was the second most popular business destination with 13% of bookings, followed by Singapore (6.4%) and Hong Kong at 2.5%.
Brisbane, the third most visited city in Australia, came in fifth, accounting for 2.3% of business travel flights.
The data, which was collected during the 2014/15 financial year, revealed that organisations within the finance sector have booked the highest number of flights per company.
Locomote Chief Executive and Executive Chairman Philip Weinman explained “as the gateway to the Asia Pacific and a centre point for Australian travellers, Sydney is the country’s Mecca for domestic company travel. The city has a high business density and airlines ensuring that market demand is met.
“Despite the number of communication tools available, face-to-face meetings remain essential to most businesses. The ability to discuss a deal in person or physically source products is still important.”
The data from Locomote shows that one in three Australian employees (35%) booked Business Class tickets, while 60% of corporate travellers flew Economy. Only 1% of business travellers bought First Class tickets and another 1% Premium Economy.
Weinman added “organisations are becoming more flexible when it comes to upgrading their employees to Business; especially for long flights. Some companies have established travel policies to automatically authorise the purchase of Business tickets for international destinations.”
Locomote’s innovative technology makes company travel easier, more efficient and saves company up to 35% on costs. Many businesses still use complex, laborious processes to organise business travel, while some are even stuck doing it all over email and spreadsheets. Locomote simplifies booking, duty of care, budget, authorisations, claim of expenses, and more, from any browser or mobile device, from anywhere in the world.
