Les Mills to open Britomart branch
Gym chain Les Mills has signed a twenty year lease for a new club at downtown Auckland's Britomart precinct, due to be open by April next year.
Located at the old Oriental Markets site, the 2,000 metre2 gym will be the chainâs second central city outlet in addition to its flagship Victoria Street facilities.
Billed as a âluxury fitness club?, the gym will open at the same time as the nearby East Complex tenanted by Southern Cross Medical Care Society, Westpac and Ernst & Young in April 2011. By that time 3,500 people will be working in Britomart.
As Les Mills Chief Executive Reece Zondag explains âBritomart is an excellent location for our newest club and completes the first step in our growth strategy. Auckland is a dynamic and exciting city and the central city has been an area of interest for us for many years â we just needed the right site.
âOur Britomart facility will be a luxury concept club with a stunning interior fitout as well as all the latest fitness technology and equipment. And thereâll be plenty of convenient parking in the same building for members while they work out.?
The building will have 1,250 parking spaces while a 700 metre2 retail space is also situated in the building, which Britomart is marketing for a health and fitness related tenant.
In December it was reported that Les Mills had purchased a Khyber Pass property which it intended to develop into another fitness club.
Architects Warren & Mahoney are designing plans for that facility, and no opening date has been set.
