Les Mills due to reopen Christchurch club

Les Mills New Zealand is planning to reopen its Christchurch CBD club, the city's largest, on 30th March.

Largely undamaged in the 22nd February 2011 earthquake that devasted much of the city, the Cashel Street club has been closed due to its location inside Christchurch's cordoned off CBD.

The four-storey, purpose-built club was also affected by its proximity to a high-rise hotel that had to be demolished and even served as a base for emergency services.

Explaining the recovery of the fitness industry Richard Beddie, the Christchurch-based Chief Executive of Fitness New Zealand states "fitness centres in Christchurch continue to re-open slowly (with) several new 24 hour operations opening, and quickly filling to capacity, taking advantage of the thousands of 'gymless' members of other clubs.

"Unfortunately some major facilities are still closed including Quest in Ferrymead, which is not re-opening, as well as cityfitness in the CBD, which is yet to re-open, but hopefully will soon."
