Leading goal post supplier reminds sports ground contractors and managers of dangers of non-compliant goals

Abel Sports General Manager John Cann is concerned that with increasing demand for portable/moveable football (soccer) goals, many sports ground contractors and managers are not aware of the Australian Competition and Consumer (ACCC) Mandatory Standard requirements for Moveable Soccer Goals and are purchasing cheaper imported non-compliant goals.

Cann says it is frustrating for Australian manufactures like Abel Sports, who employ over 15 people and support local suppliers, to have to compete with non-compliant and potentially unsafe imported products.

He also sees that it has been several years since the ACCC undertook a series of campaigns on football goal post safety.

Cann explains “as I regularly visit sports grounds it is concerning how I am seeing a growing number of instances where the goal posts being supplied are not complaint.”

Cann provided the attached photograph of imported portable football goal posts recently delivered to a new sports ground site in metropolitan Melbourne as an apparent example of this.

He suggests that contractors, venue managers, football clubs and councils refer to the ACCC’s product safety website and search the ‘Moveable Soccer Goals Suppliers’ guide before purchasing any portable goals.
