Last weekend of operations at Greenhills Adventure Park

The Greenhills Adventure Park in the South Australian town of Victor Harbor is operating for its last weekend before its final closure on 1st May and subsequent redevelopment for housing.

Having opened for its final season on 1st September, the low key closure of the park follows it having provided entertainment and family fun over more than years.

Developers purchased the 10 hectares of land on which the attraction sits in 2009 and propose to build 66 housing allotments over four stages.

Located in the picturesque Hindmarsh Valley just over an hour's drive south of Adelaide, Greenhills Adventure Park has more than 20 attractions including waterslides, go-carts, mini golf, archery, climbing wall, canoes, aqua bikes and a kiosk for refreshments and food.

The attraction was established in 1982 and officially opened in 1983.

Park Managing Director Meg Whibley recently told local newspaper The Islander that the park had been “going flat chat” over the summer and during the recent school holidays, with more than 1,600 visitors on just the Sunday and Monday of the ANZAC Day long weekend alone.

She is predicting that things will be even busier this weekend, expecting at least 500 visitors on Saturday and potentially triple that on Sunday.

Whibley stated “we’ve had really positive comments from everyone for all we do for the community, for South Australia. I think we’ll be missed, we have brought a lot of people into the town.”

Whibley took on the management of the park from her brother Scott McKenzie, who died of cancer in 2004 at the age of just 43.

McKenzie had driven the development of the attraction and was a leading member of the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association.
