Lakes Leisure Launches second free Health & Fitness makeover

Queenstown's Lakes Leisure facility is set to launch its second fully sponsored health and fitness makeover program. Commencing on 2nd May, the eight week programme is designed to get overweight people moving and eating well, giving them the kick start they need to go on and reach their long term health and fitness goals.
The free programme has sought applications from ten Queenstowners to take part, each of whom must have at least 25 kilograms to lose and have been selected to ensure they are not only the most 'at need' but are also likely to get the greatest benefit from the programme. Lakes Leisure's Alpine Health & Fitness will coordinate the programme with Manager Richie Heap saying the facility is committed to enhancing the wider community's health and wellbeing.
Heap explains "we are working hard to reach those people who need the most help to get active and improve their fitness. The gym, pool and sport grounds that Lakes Leisure manages are fantastic community resources, but providing the facilities that give people the opportunity to get active and stay fit is only half the job. The other part is supporting and encouraging people with long established sedentary lifestyles, who donï¾t always have the motivation to go it alone, to get active and experience the health benefits physical activity can deliver.
"We were inundated with applicants for the programme we ran last October, but there are limited places due to resource constraints so itï¾s essential that the people selected are the ones who will make the most of it. When a lot of very deserving applicants miss out, the people who get the opportunity to participate have to do so knowing they owe it to not only themselves, but everyone else to give it their all."
Along with nutritional seminars, assessments with a physiotherapist and podiatrist, participants will receive two personal training sessions each week to help them set realistic goals and stay on track during the challenge. They will also be given unlimited free access to Alpine Health & Fitness and Alpine Aqualand for three months.
The first programme which ran last year was a resounding success with participant Vicki Paddon declared the 'winner' for her overall commitment to a change in lifestyle and the achievement of her fitness and weight loss goals.
Vicki was a size 16 when she started the programme and has become a familiar face around the Queenstown Events Centre and Alpine Health & Fitness as she continues to work out to maintain her new healthy size 10 figure.
