Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum secures disaster recovery funds

Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum, situated between Swan Hill and Kerang on the shores of Victoria's Lake Boga, sustained damage during the flooding and extreme rainfall in October 2022.

Following a successful application to the Victorian Government's Disaster Recovery Heritage Grants, Swan Hill Rural City Council has announced that the Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum will receive $65,500.

The funding will be used for disaster risk management documentation and to identify high-priority remediation works for the museum, which is housed in the original communications bunker.

Council Acting Director of Development and Planning, Dennis Hovenden enthused "we're thrilled that the Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum will benefit from this funding. The museum is a significant cultural and historical asset for the region, and this grant ensures we can take important steps to protect and preserve it for future generations.”

The Victorian Government's Disaster Recovery Heritage Grants program provides support for the repair and conservation of historic heritage places affected by natural disasters. Severe weather events, including the 2022 Victorian floods, have caused widespread damage to heritage sites across the state, highlighting the importance of programs like this.

Hovenden said the Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum is a celebrated landmark, preserving the history of the region's role during World War II.

"This funding ensures that its valuable stories and artifacts remain protected, safeguarding a vital piece of local and national heritage," he added.
