Kings Canyon Resort reveals new Glamping Tents in Watarrka National Park

Kings Canyon Resort in the Watarrka National Park in the Northern Territory is offering visitors a chance to experience the region in style with the launch of its new glamping tents.

Australian companies EcoStructures and Temple & Webster have been engaged in the construction and design of the tents, which offer guests luxurious hotel comforts combined with a first-hand encounter with the magnificent outback.

The six new Australian homestead-style glamping tents, which opened on 1st June 2019, are gathered in a central wiltja (shelter in Indigenous Anangu) area in the resort. The tents are made by West Australia-based company EcoStructures and designed to blend with the Northern Territory landscape.

Generously spacious, the new glamping tents offer more than 85metres2 of interior space and feature canvas sides and large windows to welcome in the views. Australian furniture and homewares company Temple & Webster has been engaged to furnish the tents, creating a contemporary, stylish vibe and with plenty of options for relaxing after a day’s exploring the outback.

King beds feature premium linens, a modern lounge and dining suite overlook the red desert, and private ensuites are stocked with Australian spa products. Outdoors, generous verandas offer cool lounging space with double hammocks or swing chairs.

Temple & Webster Lead Commercial Designer Jo Ashman took inspiration from the Australian outback, with references to the striking natural palette and using rustic finishes and strong timber influences in the fitout. The company’s Head of Trade and Commercial Lucy Sutherland said the tents allowed easy views of this classic Australian destination, making the tents themselves part of the bucket list destination.

Kings Canyon Resort General Manager Michelle Ikin said the new glamping tents were designed to appeal to the modern traveller, keen to experience the landscape, food and culture of the region, advising "the new glamping tents offer our guests a sensory experience of the Australian outback.

"From the early morning song of the crested bellbird to the call of the dingo, the sights and sounds of the desert are front and centre of the glamping experience at Kings Canyon Resort.

“With all the comforts of a hotel stay, we think this style of accommodation will be a reason for guests to linger longer at Kings Canyon and explore more of this fascinating region.”

A new open-air cinema and sunset viewing platform overlooking Carmichael’s Crag are under development, set to open on 1st July 2019 and adding to the immersive guest experience at Kings Canyon. Classic Australian movies for all ages will kick off the program, while a pop-up caravan bar will provide refreshments for travellers watching the sun set on another action-packed day in the desert.

The new Glamping tents include three designed for couples, while three family tents feature a king bed plus two king single beds. Rates in the new glamping tents start at $390 per night and include breakfast. Children twelve years and under stay free.

Kings Canton is an oasis located between Uluru and Alice Springs.
