Key Australia Council leadership roles fall vacant
The futures of Australia Council for the Arts Chair Rupert Myer and Deputy Chair Robyn Archer are in doubt.
Both appointments expired on 1st July, with Minister for the Arts Senator Brandis yet to announce whether their terms will be renewed.
Appointed for three year terms in June 2012, in the wake of funding cut to the Australia Council, there has been considerable speculation that Myer and Archer will not be reappointed.
Myer (pictured) received an Order of Australia in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours 'for distinguished service to the visual and performing arts, through governance roles with leading cultural institutions, as a supporter and benefactor, to the promotion of philanthropy, and to the community.
Addressing the ArtsHub Conference last Friday, Archer talked about the challenges faced by the Australia Council following the loss of $104.8 million over four years and raised the question of whether the Australia Council was resilient enough to bounce back in a difficult environment.
