Kate Palmer appointed to board of Richmond Football Club
Melbourne-based AFL club Richmond has announced the appointment of former Australian Sports Commission Chief Executive Kate Palmer to its Board.
Palmer, who last week took on the role of interim Chief Executive at the new Australian Athletics, fill the vacancy created after Malcolm Speed completed his term as a Director.
Palmer, who was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for services to sport in 2019, brings a wealth of experience to the Board having chaired the Victorian Institute of Sport (from 2010 to 2016), served as a Trustee of the Melbourne Cricket Ground Trust (from 2004 to 2015) and was a member of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (from 2010 to 2014).
Prior to her role with the Australian Sports Commission, Palmer (pictured) spent 10 years as Chief Executive of Netball Australia, where she was responsible for the governance, development and promotion of netball for 1.2 million national participants.
The Club’s nomination committee recommended Palmer fill the vacancy and it was formally accepted by the Board at its most recent meeting.
Commenting on the appointment, Richmond President, Peggy O’Neal stated “Kate has an outstanding record as a sport administrator from both a Board and executive perspective, and I have no doubt she will make a significant contribution to our Club,” said.
“I would like to acknowledge and thank Malcolm Speed for his contribution to the Board during his nine years as a Club director. I am sure that he will look back proudly on what we have been able to collectively achieve during his time as a director.”
The Richmond Board: Peggy O’Neal (President); Emmett Dunne (Vice-President); Brendon Gale (Executive Director); John O’Rourke; Kate Palmer; Joe Powell; Henriette Rothschild; Kerry Ryan; Mark Ward and Tina De Young.
