Karratha Leisureplex opens its doors

Karratha's new aquatic, fitness, sport and recreation centre, a key project in the transformation of the booming Pilbara mining town, has been opened.

Named the Karratha Leisureplex, the $64 faciliity features an aquatic precinct, multi-purpose sports venues, fitness centre, creche, cafes, function rooms and office space.

The facility has been opened by Western Australian Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls who adhighlighted the State Government's $22.8million contribution to the Shire of Roebourne facility though the 'Royalties for Regions' program.

Minister Grylls stated "people in Karratha and the region now have access to world-class recreation facilities.

"The Karratha Leisureplex offers a wide range of facilities for local schools, sports teams, families, small business owners and workers to enjoy."

The Karratha Leisureplex is part of the Karratha 20:20 Vision and Community Plan, a $170 million program that aims to transform the town of Karratha into a hub that will offer lifestyle, infrastructure and services to enhance the towns liveability.
