Workshop to explain progress of Karratha 20:20 plan

Parks and Leisure Australia (Western Australian Region) are to stage a workshop on the $170 million Karratha 20:20 plan, the community infrastructure program that the Shire of Roebourne has been developing since July 2009.

The workshop, to be held at the City of Wanneroo on 10th June 2013, will allow delegates to meet members of the Shire of Roebourne's Strategic Projects Office, which was established to have direct oversight of all major works.

The workshop will focus on the establishment and structure of the program, the processes that were developed and implemented to successfully manage the program; the reporting and communications methodology that was established and the implementation of asset management programmes.

The speakers will be led by Simon Kot, Director Strategic Projects and Infrastructure: Geoff Shoemark, Project Manager; Belinda Tussler, Coordinator Administration; and Donna Scott, Project Officer.

The projects include the Karratha Leisureplex; Pam Buchanan Family Centre; Karratha Youth Shed; Karratha Airport airside and terminal upgrades; Bulgarra Sporting Complex upgrade and development of the Frank Butler Community Centre; concept planning for the redevelopment of the Roebourne Community Aquatic Centre and a major streetscape development of Dampier Highway.

The Karratha 20:20 plan aims to transform the town of Karratha, in the booming Pilbara mining region, into a hub that will offer lifestyle, infrastructure and services to enhance the town's liveability.

Features of the plan include the development of a $58 million leisure and learning hub; $3 million for the upgrade of reserves and playgrounds, $5 million for youth spaces, a $5 million family centre as well as a hospital upgrade, superclinic, town revitalisation programme, investment in two Primary schools, an airport upgrade, and an underground power and water waste system.
