Japan Institute of Sports Sciences celebrates 10 years
The Japan Institute of Sports Sciences (JISS) has celebrated its ten year anniversary at a recent ceremony, with its subsequent annual conference following the theme, titled 'Ten Years of Progress in Sports Sciences'.
Held at the JISS multi-purpose gymnasium the event was attended by 250 delegates who joined with panel discussions covering 'Pre-competition Conditioning Support', 'Technical Support in Daily Training Regimen' and 'Roles of JISS in Establishing an Integrated Structure for Athletic Development from Grass Roots to Elite Level'.
Dr Roger Jackson, the founding Chief Executive of Own the Podium Program of Canada, presented a special lecture on Creating a National High Performance Sport System and Successful International Performances, providing delegates with the chance to reflect on how JISS has created an international standard high performance elite sport environment over a decade.
The JISS 10th Anniversary Ceremony was attended distinguished guests, including Japan's Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister Masaharu Nakagawa.
Referring to Japan's recent Sport Promotion Law, Nakagaw stated, "JISS is expected to take bigger role in the coming years."
JISS has also hosted the Asian Conference on Sport Science (ACSS) 2011.
ACSS has been organised annually since 2000 in order to share information and facilitate cooperative relationship among sport institutions in Asia.
This year's event received a keynote presentation from Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) Chief Executive Dr Trisha Leahy added a special presentation, spoke about the elite training system at HKSI.
Sport science centres in China, South Korea and Japan have been taking turns to host the biannual ACSS conference with the next ACSS event to be held in Hong Kong in 2013.
