Auckland Museum launches VR Antarctic Experience
After playing to audiences in Australia in 2019, the immersive 360-degree virtual reality (VR) film, The Antarctica Experience, has landed at Auckland Museum for a limited time.
The Antarctic Experience is a state-of-the-art VR film which invites visitors to follow scientists as they explore Antarctica from land, air and sea; get up close to the animal life that makes the frozen slopes their home; or take in the incredible natural wonders of the dramatic landscape.
Visitors to the museum are invited to “don a headset and experience first-hand the work of Australian scientists in understanding climate change, managing ecosystems and conserving the unique wildlife in this virtual reality world-first.”
Viewers can explore Antarctica from a helicopter cockpit, landing on a glacier and getting up close and personal with penguins in their natural habitat.
Visitors will also visit Australia’s Davis research station and learn about the logistics that go into surviving the harsh Antarctic conditions; view Antarctica from a never before seen drone perspective; and see the spectacular Southern Lights in high definition.
