Iran to invest US$30 billion in tourism projects to develop sector

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has drafted an investment package for developing tourism sector which includes 1,500 projects worth at US$30 billion

Announcing the investment, Massoud Soltanifar, head of the Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organisation told the Trend website "Iran plans to attract 20 million tourists to the country over the next 10 years.”

Envisaging US$25 to US$30 billion in revenue per year, Soltanifar has called on domestic and international investors to cooperate with the Government for developing tourism in the countru

Elaborating on the measures taken to draw the attention of tourists to the country, Soltanifar said the Iranian Government had facilitated the easing visa requirements to visit the country and launched new infrastructure projects.

He added "several projects for constructing hotels in historical and religious cities are underway."

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has suggested that Iran's international tourism receipts in 2013 amounted to $1.294 million while the World Bank has reported that 4.96 million tourists arrived in Iran in 2014.

The World Bank statistics indicate 1.175 billion inbound tourists across the globe in 2014 with an expenditure of $1.426 trillion.
