Innovative pop-up venue to host Vivid Sydney 2015 Here Lies Love production

As part of next year's Vivid Sydney program, a purpose-built pop-up venue will be built at Sydney's Barangaroo to host the acclaimed New York production Here Lies Love

Set to debut in May 2015, the production by Talking Heads’ David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s will be the first production to premiere at Central Barangaroo, a new harbourside precinct that will feature open-air spaces for festivals, entertainment, arts, culture and educational activities.

Here Lies Love will be the first musical production to take centre stage at Vivid Sydney, the southern hemisphere’s largest festival of music, light and ideas

Introducing the production, NSW Minister for Regional Tourism John Barilaro stated “the Millennium, a striking pop up venue, will combine intimacy and bold inventiveness and reference the site’s shipping history while standing tall as a vibrant display of the urban renewal taking place at Barangaroo.

“Here Lies Love will be the first musical production to take centre stage at Vivid Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest festival of music, light and ideas.”

In Sydney for the announcement, Byrne added “it was a festival in Australia that first took a chance on this material - that was a concert version - so it’s appropriate that after many years Here Lies Love is back, finally, as the show it was always supposed to be.

“It took a while to get it right, to figure it all out, but that has happened.

“It’s very cool to be part of Vivid Sydney - this show provides a lot to look at - and to be part of this big cultural project in Barangaroo.”

Here Lies Love is a concept album and rock musical about the life of the former First Lady of the Philippines Imelda Marcos.
