India’s largest waterpark a significant opening in an emerging market

The opening of India’s largest waterpark, Wet N Joy Waterpark in Lonavala, is a significant event for the attractions industry in India - marking the arrival of a world class waterpark for the fast growing and increasingly sophisticated leisure market on the sub continent.

Lonavala, a lush hill station in the Indian state of Maharashtra, is already a popular tourism destination known for its natural lakes, historic caves and picturesque mountains and the natural beauty of the region was seen as a perfect back drop for the waterpark development by the Malpani Group.

The Malpani Group , which operates across multiple industries including education, entertainment, health, finance, hospitality and tourism have set out to provide an international standard waterpark with a cashless system throughout the facility using RFID wristbands that can be loaded with credit and used to pay for lockers, merchandise or food and beverages.

Waterslides, play structures, the wave river and wave pool are all supplied by WhiteWater and include many firsts for Indian waterpark guests.

Wet N Joy Waterpark offers  India’s first Master Blaster and India’s largest Wave Pool which spans 5,574 metre². In the middle of the impressive Dual Wave pool is an entertainment stage and surrounding beach space making the wave pool a distinctive place to host events and parties. The man-made surging ocean is framed with the natural lush greenscapes of Lonavala.

Other attractions supplied by WhiteWater include a Wave River and an Extreme River, multiple waterslides such as the Rattler™ and Boomerango™ and a tiki-themed AquaPlay RainFortress™ which covers 929 metre².

WhiteWater’s range of attractions provide fun for guests of all ages and levels, from the ‘adrenalin junkies’ looking to be thrilled on the Freefall Body Slides to parents with youngsters wanting to play together in the dedicated children’s area.

Commenting on the project, WhiteWater West General Manager Waterparks and Attractions, Sean Hinton stated “we are extremely proud to have worked with the Malpani family to help bring their vision of Wet N Joy Waterpark to life while continuing to support the family in the development of future projects.

“It’s amazing to think that WhiteWater’s first project in India was 20 years ago (so) we are thrilled to see the waterpark and attractions industry continuing to grow and thrive in India.”
