Holey Moley announces first New Zealand mini-golf attraction

Funlab has announced that it will launch its first Holey Moley mini-golf attraction in New Zealand on the Auckland waterfront on 11th October.

The $3 million attraction, that will feature three themed mini golf set-ups, will open on Quay Street, ofering themed holes based on The Simpsons, Game of Thrones and Flintstones along with upside down rooms and ‘Instagram-friendly’ holes.

With bars and nightclub closures common in New Zealand over recent years, Funlab Chief Executive Michael Schreiber sees that Holey Moley will reinvigorate the concept of going out.

Schreiber told the New Zealand Herald “people used to go to nightclubs and bars to hook up, meet other people and find dates, but people don't do that anymore because of the internet.

"Just being a traditional bar, or certainly a nightclub, (isn't enough). Bars have to have some real reason for people to visit... what we do is give people a reason to come - it's a lot of fun. It does also happen to be a great Tinder date spot.

"Instead of sitting at a table and having a drink staring at someone and having awkward conversation, it's a great icebreaker."

Funlab operate 11 Holey Moley bars spread throughout Australia including in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, several of which have been opened in former nightclubs

Schreiber added “there are a number of different mini golf styles in the UK, and that was the kernel of the idea we used to create our own mini golf concept - much more of an adult social experience.

"It's not really about hardcore competition. It's something to do while drinking."

Funlab’s new Quay Street location will be able to accommodate 150 golfers and 300 in the venue at once. It will cost party-goers $16 for a game of nine holes.
