Hockey Australia launches tender process for its Australian Championships
Hockey Australia has announced a shake-up to the way its Australian Championships are allocated with the launch of its new national tender model covering the period from 2016 to 2018.
From today (Friday 10th April), applications are invited from interested parties including State and Territory Hockey Associations, hockey clubs and associations, state and local government tourism and events organisations to bid to host Australian Championships. The process replaces the rotation system that has previously seen Championships allocated to State and Territory Associations who do not always have suitable facilities or the necessary commercial support to successfully deliver them.
More than 10,000 people travel to Australian Championships each year as participants, coaches, officials, umpires, volunteers, family and friends. The Australian Championships are responsible for almost $11 million* in economic activity annually.
The exciting new tender model is a significant step forward for hockey in Australia and is designed to ensure our Australian Championships take place at venues that best support the events, while showcasing our sport at all levels and driving commercial return for reinvestment into the sport. In all, 24 Championships will form part of the tender process for 2016-2018.
