Hockey Australia and Hockey WA receive $400,000 funding from Western Australian Government

The Western Australian Government is supporting Hockey Australia and Hockey WA with a $400,000 investment in their Paris 2024 Olympic qualifications processes for both of Australia’s elite hockey teams – the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos.

The funding will support athletes and staff to focus on quality preparation, including the mental and physical training required to best position both teams to win Olympic gold. It will also support their training ahead of the Oceania Cup in August 2023, which is a qualifier for the Olympic Games.

The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos train in Perth, Australia's home of hockey.

In December the WA Government, Hockey WA and the Western Australian Institute of Sport were successful in their combined $135 million bid to keep Hockey Australia's High-Performance Program in Perth.

As part of retaining the program, the current facility at Curtin University will be transformed into a world-class hockey facility with three international hockey pitches, a specialist goalkeeper training facility, an indoor hockey centre and extensive recovery, gym and support facilities.

WA Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman noted "the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras have a long and proud history of success and we are pleased to support their hard work to achieve Olympic gold.

"Success is never automatic. The road to Paris will be challenging and both teams will need to stay focused to keep their world rankings in an increasingly competitive environment.

"We wish them all the best with their preparations for the Oceania Cup and qualifying for Paris."
