Hockey Victoria’s Suzanne Henderson among 96 Change our Game scholarship recipients

The Victorian Government’s latest round of the Change our Game Professional Development Scholarship Program will benefit 96 women including General Manager of Game Development at Hockey Victoria Suzanne Henderson.

The Program is run by the Victorian Government’s Office for Women in Sport and Recreation through its Change our Game initiative.

The scholarships provide grants from $5,000 to $10,000 for women to undertake professional development, education and training.

Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence notes “Supporting women to realise their leadership potential is another way we’re leveling the playing field for women and girls in sport.

“These scholarships create a visible pathway for the next generation of women in sport, be it on the field or in the boardroom.”

Covering five categories, the scholarships create opportunities for women in the early stages of their careers right through to supporting those at an executive or governance level.

It offers a full range of support for women, including professional development programs and leadership sessions, to strengthen the specialist skills needed for their roles in the sport sector.

Henderson will use her scholarship to attend the International Working Group World Conference on Women and Sport in Auckland, New Zealand, from 14th-17th November 2022. She hopes the conference will lead to greater insights and collaborations to enable her to advance equality and inclusion programs she oversees in hockey throughout Victoria.

Henderson enthused “this is a fantastic opportunity, and I’m really looking forward to taking back what I learn to help broaden our initiatives to make hockey even more inclusive.

“I look forward to building new networks, listening and learning from world leaders in gender equity and coming back to Victoria with key actions we can take to advance gender equity within hockey and more broadly within Victorian Sport.”
