Harvey Lister backs mentoring of young event and exhibition professionals
The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) has wrapped up the 2014 Young Stars & Leaders Table Series with a mentoring dinner with AEG Ogden Chairman and Chief Executive, Harvey Lister.
Lister joined EEAA Young Stars at EEAA Member venue, Wolfies in The Rocks and gave them countless stories from his extraordinary career in the entertainment and business events industry.
EEAA Chief Executive Joyce DiMascio said the Association was honoured to have such a formidable leader address its younger members, stating “we ended the 2014 EEAA Young Stars and Leaders Table Dinner Series on a high – our younger members got access to one of the most accomplished business leaders and entrepreneurs in our sector – not just in Australia but globally.”
Listers’s industry experience spans the entertainment, sport, live theatre, convention and exhibition industries, having been involved in the management of major public assembly facilities across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region which have delivered more than 30,000 major events.
EEAA Young Star Committee Member and host for the evening, Ashleigh Taylor, explained that Lister gave a passionate and real account of what being in our industry means.
She said she took a lot from his presentation. This included the importance of taking calculated risks, loyalty, and maintaining a good reputation.
Taylor stated “it was an inspiring and motivational dinner and irrespective of the role you play within our industry, there were lessons we can apply to our business.”
The EEAA Young Stars is a program run by the EEAA for its members under 35. In 2014 it held a series of events in Sydney and Melbourne. Its next event will be in Melbourne on the eve of EEAA 2014 Conference and Awards for Excellence on 19th and 20th November at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
DiMascio concluded “EEAA is committed to creating opportunities for younger workers in the exhibition and events industry where they can learn and develop through access to inspiring leaders.”
