GRID Series launches 10th artist development program for musicians in Geelong

City of Greater Geelong has advised that applications have opened to Geelong musicians looking for a mentoring opportunity to hone their creative and professional skills and take that next step in the music business.

Supported by the City and Creative Victoria, GRID Series (Grass Roots Indie Development) is launching its 10th artist development program in Geelong for the first time to empower emerging artists who live outside inner-city music hubs.

This innovative artist development initiative provides one-on-one mentoring with an industry mentor, collaboration with a producer to create a new track, recording sessions, live performance opportunities and the creation of an artist documentary.

Award winning songwriter and producer Joel Ma “Joelistics” (Haiku Hands, Moju), ARIA nominated engineer, songwriter and producer Becki Whitton, acclaimed producer Ariel Blum (NIASHA, St.Ives), music festival programmer Rich Moffat (Groovin’ the Moo, Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass), and director of Broken Leg PR Monique Matosic are among this year’s team of producers and mentors.

Four local solo artists and/or bands who write their own music will be selected for this year’s curated program, starting on 25th October until March 2024. Musicians who are aged 18 years and over and are available on all key dates listed on the application form are eligible.

Mayor Trent Sullivan notes “this is an unmissable opportunity for musicians who want to develop their distinctive sound in a creative and nurturing environment.

“GRID Series is a chance to grow and come alive with support from experienced industry professionals who know the ins and outs of song development, performing and how to break into a tough industry.

“Council is thrilled to join Creative Victoria in supporting a program that creates new pathways for local singers and bands who have diverse stories to share.”

Creativity and Culture portfolio chair, Councillor Melissa Cadwell adds “I encourage local musicians to apply for the artist development initiative as it could give them a special ‘edge’.

“Having an all-star team of industry professionals at hand to ask questions of and learn from can assist artists to tap into and connect with new audiences.

“Artists like Srirachi, Jag, Angie McMahion, Gordon Koang, Flewnt, NIASHA and Franjapan are just some of the notable alumni of GRID Series who have benefited from participating.”

Applications can be submitted to gridseries.com.au before Monday 2nd October. The GRID Series team are available to assist musicians needing assistance in submitting their application.
