Greater Shepparton secures Softball Masters Championships with record number of teams

Greater Shepparton City Council has advised that Softball Victoria will be returning to Greater Shepparton with a record number of 42 teams for the 2024 Masters Championships.

The three-day event, from 8th-10th June, will be held at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.

Teams will travel from Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania to take part in the 26th edition of the tournament. With approximately 700 players and officials, additional support crew and spectators, the event is expected to inject around $1 million into the local economy.

Ten softball diamonds will be set up for the event, reinforcing Greater Shepparton's reputation as a premier sporting destination.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali enthused "these events strengthen our reputation as the leading sporting and events capital of regional Australia, while keeping our local economy strong and businesses thriving.

"To facilitate the matches, ten softball diamonds will be set up at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve. We are looking forward to welcoming players, officials and spectators to Greater Shepparton for the Championships."

Following the announcement, Softball Victoria State Operations Manager Jo Schutt said they were delighted to be returning to the region for the annual tournament and added “we are pleased to be able to work with the Greater Shepparton City Council to provide such a great location to our members for this tournament, which is a 'must do' for Masters Softballers.

"Likewise, we are very happy the tournament provides a boost to local businesses coupled with the local non-profit organisations who will be assisting to support the event."
