Golf can play on through new Melbourne lockdown
With Metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire hacing entered a new lockdown to halt the spread of the Coronavirus, Golf Australia has advised that, subject to conditions, that golf courses will remain open and that golf will continue to be played during this time.
Unlike the previous Victorian lockdown that saw golf courses closed, a unique move among Australian states, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that golf can continue to be played in areas that will be covered by Level 3 restrictions in 2-ball groups from this Thursday.
However clubhouses will be required to close as of midnight tonight (8th July) for all services other than take-away food and beverage.
Golf Australia, which described the move as "pleasing", and the PGA of Australia have committed to communicate further information as it relates to facility operations, including coaching, Pro-Shops, driving ranges, warm-up areas and other related activities as soon as possible.
Golf Australia advised "we are continuing to work with government on understanding further ramifications of Stage 3 restrictions on golf clubs/facilities."
