Queensland to reopen borders to all except Victorians

Following pressure to reopen its borders to other Australian states and territories, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced that Queensland will open its borders to all except Victorians.

Announcing that the easing will apply from 10th July, Premier Palaszczuk said the Queensland Government was also bringing forward "some aspects" of stage three easing of restrictions that, from Friday, will allow 100 people to gather in homes and at weddings.

While the reopening of the key border with NSW is expected to encourage tourism, Premier Palaszczuk is urging Queenslanders to stay away from Victoria.

Anyone who has travelled from Victoria and enters Queensland from this Friday, including Queenslanders, will have to quarantine at their own expense for 14 days with anyone who lies about being in Victoria facing a $4,000 fine.

Lifting the closure of Queensland's borders, which have been closed since 26th March, Premier Palaszczuk urged Queenslanders to think carefully about travel plans, stating “please do not go to Victoria.

"We cannot risk removing our border restrictions for those people coming from areas in Victoria right now."

The South Australian Government has also announced that it has abandoned its decision to open its border with South Australia from 20th July.
