'Go Gold Coast' Active and Healthy program gets underway

The Gold Coast’s Active and Healthy Program - Go Gold Coast - is underway, offering 10 days of sporting events and free activities to celebrate a Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games milestone.

Go Gold Coast Week aligns with the City’s 2023-24 Active and Healthy launch, during which the city’s sporting venues will be showcased.

The event was launched on Friday 14th July with Gold Coast Lifestyle and Community Chair, Councillor Hermann Vorster advising “on Sunday 23rd July we will be marking the nine-year countdown to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in South East Queensland.

“This event will give locals the chance to ‘have a go’ at an Olympic or Paralympic sport for free, be a spectator at a football match, take part in wellness programs and join in a parkrun, to name a few.”

Go Gold Coast Week will showcase the City’s depth of existing programs and facilities and potential Olympic and Paralympic legacy.

There will be free entry to City-owned sporting venues and the staging of free Active and Healthy activities on the Sunday to end the celebration of sport and physical activity.

A range of feature sport and physical activity focused events are scheduled throughout the week including a Go Gold Coast Family Sport Day at Broadwater Parklands, and will be repeated annually in the lead up to 2032.

Free #HaveAGo Olympic and Paralympic Sport activities include:

  • Basketball/wheelchair basketball, Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre

  • Beach Volleyball, Kurrawa Park Broadbeach

  • BMX and skateboarding, Pizzey Park Miami

  • Para Athletics, Griffith University Athletics Track
