Glen Eira Council reopens redeveloped Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool
Glen Eira City Council has celebrated the reopening of the redeveloped Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool/Carnegie Swim Centre, a much-loved community facility now revitalised to meet the needs of future generations.
The state-of-the-art facility’s outdoor pools opened to the public today, with a new wellness zone to open on Friday and all pool facilities to welcome visitors from Saturday.
The $75 million redevelopment has transformed the facility into a modern aquatic and leisure space, while preserving its historic charm.
Key features of the all-year-round facility include:
50-metre outdoor pool, interactive and wheelchair accessible children’s splash pad, and 25-metre indoor learn to swim pool and fully accessible warm water pool;
Spa, sauna and steam room, 20 bed reformer Pilates studio and group exercise rooms;
Changing Places facility;
Environmentally sustainable design, featuring solar panels, energy-efficient systems, and water saving measures;
Café.
A Six Star Green Star design certification makes the centre one of the most sustainable centres in the country.
Glen Eira Mayor, Simone Zmood says accessibility was a major focus for the new centre, providing much needed improvements from the previous pool. The new facility has been designed to welcome everyone of all ages and abilities, including wheelchair access to the main pools and splashpad.
Mayor Zmood stated “Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool, originally opened in 1966, has always been a cherished part of our community, and this redevelopment ensures it will continue to be a place for recreation, health, and connection for decades to come.
“We know honouring the rich history of this facility was important to our community and that’s why you will recognise the red brick facade, grassy hill and the much-loved frog slide.”
Mayor Zmood added that the refurbished facility joins Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) and Caulfield Recreation Centre as one of the great health and wellbeing assets in Glen Eira and will be enjoyed by many generations to come.
Managed by Glen Eira Leisure, the facility has been equipped with PerfectGym technology.
