Funding for St George community sport and cultural festival

A community sport and cultural festival in south western Queensland town of St George is one step closer thanks to $50,000 in funding from the Queensland Government Sport and Recreation Active Inclusion Program.
Queensland Sport Minster Phil Reeves said the grant to the St George Aboriginal Housing Company will go towards conducting the festival, as well as provide accredited training opportunities for officers and volunteers for multiple sports in the local district.
Minster Reeves stated âthe project will be delivered by one of the Bligh Government funded Queensland Police Citizens Youth Club Indigenous Community Sport and Recreation Officers in conjunction with the St George Aboriginal Housing Company.
âActive inclusion is about increasing access for people that face physical, cultural or social barriers to be involved in sport and recreation on a regular basis.
âSupporting projects that meet the needs of population groups with access issues can help develop more vibrant, active communities, and Active Inclusion Program was created to achieve this aim.
Minister Reeves, who announced the new suite of sport and recreation funding programs earlier this year, said the programs were designed to increase participation, recruit volunteers, and encourage disadvantaged communities to participate in sport and recreation.
â(Our aim) is to help Queenslanders become Australiaâs healthiest people by 2020 (and) to reduce obesity levels by one-third by 2020.
âThe benefits of regular physical activity are well documented and our investment in sport and recreation is focused on making sure everyone has an opportunity to get out and get active.
âQueensland invests more funding in sport and recreation than any other state in Australia, which helps us work towards our aim of developing more sporting opportunities for all.?
