Fremantle Leisure Centre's 50 metre pool scheduled to close for repairs
The Fremantle Leisure Centre's 50-metre pool will close from mid-June 2025 to allow for major repairs with the City of Fremantle advising that, in order to minimise the impact on the community, the works will occur in the cooler months, when pool attendance is typically lower.
Advising that the work is expected to be completed by the end of the year, Fremantle Leisure Centre Manager, Adam Westberg "we know how popular our 50-metre pool is, so we're giving everyone advance notice of this necessary work and apologise for any inconvenience it may cause.
"Our much-loved pool is 50 years old and needs regular work to make sure it's safe, fit-for-purpose and up to the standards our patrons expect.
"The remediation work includes retiling sections of the 50-metre pool and replacing the filter system with a new, more efficient system."
Swimmers will still be able to use the covered 25-metre pool during the closure period.
The program pool and the playground pool will remain open, as will the Centre's gym.
City staff are currently liaising with other local government facilities to offer Fremantle Leisure Centre (FLC) members reciprocal entry arrangements to utilise their pools.
In-principle support has been given by a couple of facilities, with a confirmed list to be provided to members closer to the 50-metre pool closure.
FLC staff are also working with regular swimming groups and squads to find alternative options with other facilities.
