WACA upgrade project reaches major milestone

The WACA Ground Improvement Project has reached a significant milestone, with structural completion of the outdoor 50 metre pool which will form a central showpiece of the venue’s new aquatic facility and waterpark.

Contractor ADCO has advised that it is progressing ahead with construction across the site, including the steel structure of the nation-leading, 10-lane Indoor Centre which will become home to WA Cricket's High Performance and Elite Teams.

With the project on track for practical completion next September, the multi-level public pavilion is also taking shape, set to house the new museum, cafe, health club, members facilities and WA Cricket administration.

Commenting on the progress on the project WA Cricket interim Chief Executive, Justin Michael advised "WA Cricket is proud and excited to mark the structural completion of the outdoor pool as a significant milestone in the WACA Ground Improvement Project.

"From our players, to staff and our members, we've all been watching the site with keen interest and it's a real thrill to see major elements of the project appearing.

"We're excited to see this iconic Ground continue to thrive and serve as a hub for cricket and community activities, ensuring its place in Western Australia's sporting history for generations to come."

Construction of the 50m outdoor pool is a key milestone for ADCO, with the structure comprising over 1900 metre³ of concrete, almost two-kilometres of PVC pipework and more than 61-thousand tiles.

With the stairs for the new waterslides already wrapping around one of the venue’s light towers, when complete the resort-style community facility will also include an indoor learn-to-swim pool and splashpad accessible to children and young people of all abilities.

"The WACA Ground is more than just a venue; it's a central part of Western Australia's sporting heritage. This project isn't just about building a facility; it's about creating a lasting legacy for WA Cricket, the athletes, and the broader community.”

As the most significant evolution in the Ground's 131-year history, the $168.9 million project will transform the ground into a 10,000-seat community and sporting venue supporting elite and community cricket and providing year-round facilities for the broader community.

The Project is facilitated by WA Cricket and the WA Cricket Foundation and Cricket Australia, along with local, state, and federal governments as part of the 10-year, $1.66 billion Perth City Deal.
