Fourth LatiTube set for Coffs Harbour installation?

The current leasees of the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Pool are working on a plan to install Australia’s fourth LatiTube standing surf wave simulator at the facility.

Having recently taken over the lease of the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Pool, the Leaver and McLaughlin families, who own aquatic industry supplier Swimplex, are working on a plan to install the latest LatiTube onto the site.

Last week the Olympic Pool’s Facebook page posed the question  "what if you could ride a six foot wave in Coffs pool?"

Following this, local newspaper the Coffs Coast Advocate, reported LatiTube Project Manager Murray Booth as stating “the support we are getting for this idea is incredible.”

Further explaining the proposal, Booth added “the surf machine would be a stand-alone installation and would have no impact on the current users of the pool.

“Our machine is completely safe and is accessible to people aged from eight to 80!"

Developed by Swimplex at their Coffs Harbour base, the LatiTube features a custom pump delivering 2.1 tonnes of water per second to the ride surface, and another pump which delivers 500 litres per second overhead to give people the thrill of riding inside an actual barrel wave.

Booth added "our machines at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre and Wet’n’Wild Sydney are proving to be hugely successful and more installations are planned for Australia and worldwide.

"We are hoping to be able to finalise our plans to add a truly unique and exciting experience for everyone in Coffs to be a part of."

Swimplex is working on a range of improvements to the Coffs Harbour City Council-owned facility, including upgrades to the kiosk and cafeteria, expanded fitness opportunities and improvements to the centre's energy efficiency.

These improvements are in the planning stages and will be funded privately for the benefit of the community.

Booth concluded "this truly is a Coffs Harbour success story that Swimplex have funded the development of for years, and we will be very proud to be able to share this with the people of Coffs."
