Curtin University researcher’s outdoor activities study moves on to National PLA Awards
Curtin University PhD candidate Isaac Middle has received the David Aldous Student of the Year Award for his efforts to boost community physical activity in public open spaces.
The Award, part of the 2016 Parks and Leisure Australia WA Awards of Excellence, seeks to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by students in a related course of study leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
Middle, who also tutors in the School of Built Environment and is a Research Assistant with the Centre for Sport and Recreation Research, said his award submission related to his work as a student, researcher and teacher in the areas of public open space planning and sport and recreation.
He explains “the win reflects my passion for spreading the benefits of community sport and other forms of outdoor physical activity.
“More generally, my aim is to get more people outdoors in green spaces so they can access a multitude of benefits that the natural environment can provide.”
Middle’s submission will now go forward to Parks and Leisure Australia’s national members’ awards that will be presented during the annual PLA conference in Adelaide in October.
