Fitness Show WA draws record crowds
More than 8,400 fitness participants and industry stakeholders headed to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre last weekend for the biggest ever Fitness Show WA.
Drawing record crowds, with a 24% increase in numbers from 2013, the event showcased everything new and exciting in fitness from across Australia, highlighting the latest in fitness equipment and training, supplements, apparel and healthy food choices.
The brand new WA Combat Festival, headed up by Australian boxer Danny Green and UFC Champion Diego Sanchez, attracted impressive crowds across the two-day event.
The festival featured more than 200 Jiu Jitsu Competitors across both the AFBJJWA GI and No GI competition, along with novice amateur fighters battling it out at the WKA Muay Thai competitions.
Team Nova Uniao came in at first place for the male team category, Diogo BJJ B9 Team took out the female category, and the Junior and Juvenile first place title went to team Nova Uniao.
Standout show features included the most lucrative natural bodybuilding tournament in Australian history, run by the International Natural Bodybuilding Association, and incorporating a huge $25,000 prize pool for competitors.
Fabio Goncalves was crowned the overall INBA Male WA Supershow Champion, with the overall Female Champion title going to Jasmine Chia.
The purpose-built Arena was full of action, featuring 26 teams who completed a series of workouts, all striving for the title of the ‘WA Fittest Couple’.
Zach Morton-Adair and Helen Harding from team ‘ROM Arkables’ came in at first place, followed by Bryn Williams and Lucy Caldwell in second and Tara O’Rourke and Shasha Alizadeh in third.
The Healthy Living Zone showcased a range of exhibitors appealing to the healthy living and calorie-conscious, with special guests, The Healthy Chef Teresa Cutter and qualified sports dietitian and personal trainer, Amy Giannotti, sharing their love of food and nutrition.
Commando Steve was a huge draw card with queues of people waiting to meet the ‘Australia’s Biggest Loser’ trainer. Visitors were encouraged to ‘get Commando Fit’ with his sold out personal training sessions held across the weekend.
Fitness Show Exhibition Manager Shaun Krenz was thrilled with the show turnout, stating "it was great to see so many people come down to the show over the weekend.
"There is definitely a strong interest towards fitness amongst the people of Perth, and we’re looking forward to bringing the show back again even bigger in 2015.”
The Fitness Show WA was held association with the Western Australian Fitness Industry Convention (WAFIC), providing industry professionals with a great range of practical and theoretical education to help them strive in the industry.
The Fitness Show will now head to the Sydney Showground, located at Sydney Olympic Park on the 18th and 19th October before returning to Perth in 2015 on the 12th and 13th September next year.
