Fitness First closes gym in Sydney’s Rockdale
The Fitness First Rockdale club - once the scene of a shooting murder of former motorcycle gang leader - has been permanently closed.
The latest in a series of closures of Fitness and Lifestyle Group facilities, the club closed on 17th April.
Members were told to use the Sylvania Fitness First with additional classes offered to members at that location
Fitness First stated to members that while challenging, it was ensuring that the transition was as seamless as possible.
The club gained notoriety in 2018 when former motorcycle gang leader Mahmoud ‘Mick’ Hawi was murdered in the club's car park after a workout.
The murder led to revelations of previous gang-related violence at the gym.
At the time the Sydney Morning Herald reported on gang violence at the gym going back to 2008 with the Australian Federal Police having advised management that a personal trainer at the gym had links to the Comanchero gang.
