Fit n Fast opens 17th club at former Fitness First Five Dock
Fit n Fast has opened its 17th club in Sydney's Five Dock, acquiring and redbranding the former Fitness First Five Dock facility.
While some business media have suggested that founder Tony de Leede is looking to acquire other Fitness First sites, a Fit n Fast spokesperson told Australasian Leisure Management on Friday that the budget gym chain has "no interest in acquiring other Fitness First sites at this stage."
De Leede, the former Fitness First Australia Chief Executive, left the group in 2008 after eight years with the business. In 2010, he founded Fit n Fast as a low cost operation based on non contract memberships costing from $7.95 per week.
While the clubs are designed to accommodate a range of different fitness options, the company prides itself on its 'Quickie' workout, which offers a results-driven workout in 30 minutes.
Explaining the concept, the Fit n Fast spokesperson added "we live in a very busy world, and people have very little time and are very conscious of what they spend.
"We have developed a concept that not only accommodates people's time but also their wallets, without compromising on the facilities."
Fit n Fast has eschewed traditional marketing approaches, focusing instead on social media with regular member-orientated updates on Facebook and twitter.
Having announced in June that it was selling 24 of its 97 Australian clubs as a result of structural changes undertaken by its UK-based parent company, Fitness First Australia last week revealed that it is set to shed 120 of its staff across its remaining clubs.
In September, Goodlife Health Clubs' announced its acquisition of six Fitness First clubs, including Group's entire South Australian portfolio.
