FIBA to debut new 3×3 competition in Bangkok

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced plans for a new 3×3 event that will debut in the Thailand capital of Bangkok.

Set to feature teams from around the world, the FIBA 3×3 Champions Cup will launch at Bangkok’s CentralWorld Square from 14th to 16th March next year.

Set to be held annually, with the first five editions of the competition to be hosted in Thailand, new tournament will feature the world’s leading 3×3 teams, including continental cup winners, the highest ranked teams in the FIBA 3×3 rankings, Olympic gold medallists and the host nation.

Advising that the Champions Cup presents a new opportunity to grow the 3×3 discipline of basketball around the world, FIBA 3×3 Managing Director, Alex Sanchez stated “we are looking into new ways of engaging our players and fans and this new premier event will do exactly that, offering thrilling games between the best of the best. Hosting the Champions Cup in Bangkok for the next five years provides an incredible opportunity to establish a very strong 3×3 basketball footprint in Thailand.”

Brian Marcar, Managing Director of event promoter Tero Entertainment, added “this event is an amazing opportunity for the Thai basketball community to build on the incredible success of our young male and female 3×3 basketball stars and inspire a whole new generation of young players in Thailand.”

Energy drinks Sponsor and Red Bull will serve as the co-title sponsors of the Thailand events.
