Festival gatecrasher jailed over 'cowardly attack' on security guard

A teenager who gatecrashed the Perth leg of this year’s Good Life Festival has been jailed for eight months for kicking a security guard in the head at the youth music event.

Martin Fulton, 18, was captured on mobile phone footage kicking 60-year-old Michael Rigby as he tried to restrain another male at the Good Life Festival in February.

Fulton pleaded guilty to the assault, along with a charge of trespass for jumping over the fence to gain access to the event in Claremont.

His lawyer told the Perth Magistrates Court, Fulton had turned 18 just days before the festival, and was therefore officially too old to join his friends

The lawyer argued that Fulton was coming to the aid of a fellow gatecrasher after allegedly seeing Rigby pressing his forearm against the young man’s throat.

However, a friend of Fulton told WA Today that he believed Fulton went with the exact intention of harming a security guard.

The person sated “it was a malicious act that he purposely intended to do - he admitted (on Facebook) that he was going to go there to attack security.”

Fulron has also received a two year ban from attending any music festivals after his release from prison.

Fulton had been out on bail prior to his sentencing hearing this week, but was jailed last month after breaching his conditions by heading overseas for a wedding.
