Fernwood Fitness reaches halfway point in Breast Cancer fundraising

Australia’s largest full-service women-only gym, Fernwood Fitness, has announced that it has already raised $50,000 for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) in 10 days and is aiming to reach $100,000 by the end of November.

With breast cancer the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia and just under 16,000 women expected to be diagnosed this year alone, BCNA provides support for those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Supporting BCNA, Fernwood Fitness is offering 14-day passes to its clubs for $20, with all funds raised going directly to BCNA with each Fernwood club running challenges and activities with the aim to raise $100,000 as a group.

The partnership between BCNA and Fernwood Fitness began in 2015, and has been described as a “natural fit” for the fitness club, which has over 25 years’ experience in the women’s health industry.

Fernwood Fitness is particularly aware that exercising regularly during and beyond breast cancer treatment can help improve emotional wellbeing, reduce the side effects of breast cancer and its treatment, and reduce the risk of breast cancer recurring.

Founder Diana Williams said she couldn’t be more pleased to be behind the cause, stating “BCNA is an exceptional organisation to partner with. We are so thrilled to be halfway to our goal of $100,000 in just ten days. I’m proud that we are raising money to help support this incredible organisation make a difference in women’s lives. Whether it’s a family member or friend, most women will know someone affected by breast cancer, and it’s something that’s close to our hearts.”

BCNA Chief Executive Christine Nolan says the money raised by Fernwood will make a huge difference, adding “the support of Fernwood and its members will go a long way in assisting BCNA to support Australians affected by breast cancer and we are very grateful for the support of the organisation, franchisees and members.”

With research showing that one in eight Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer before they turn 85, donations to BCNA through Fernwood Fitness can be made in club or through the Fernwood Fitness website.
