Federal Government backs South Australian motorsport park with $7.5 million funding

The planned $80 million upgrade of the Tailem Bend racetrack has been boosted by a $7.5 million investment from the Federal Government and a commitment that the redeveloped  venue will host a second South Australia V8 Supercars race.

Located to the south-east of Adelaide, the project, backed by Peregrine Corporation Director Sam Shahin, aims to redevelop a former Mitsubishi test track into the major motorsport venue in South Australia and will also include a hotel, accommodation and restaurants.

Shahin told 891 ABC Adelaide he had a signed agreement with V8 Supercars to secure a race at the track by 2017, stating “we have a commitment, a signed commitment from V8 Supercars, to run a second V8 Supercar race in South Australia when this facility is finished.”

Adelaide currently hosts the Clipsal 500 in March each year.
