Fastlane Fitness expands with new pool complex in Hamilton city centre
An all new swimming pool has opened at Fastlane Fitness in Hamilton's city centre.
The new multi-million addition to the club, formerly known as Club Cardio, has been designed for fitness training, rather than as a recreational pool.
The development of the 10-lane 25 metre² pool began in December last year when Fastlane Fitness moved into new premises on the corner of Hamilton’s Rostrevor and Victoria Streets.
Not long after, the adjacent former Club Cardio building was demolished to make room for a 3,600 metre² swimming complex and an additional 100 car parks.
Susie Vincent, who owns the business with her parents and husband Shane, said they had considered of adding a pool to the gym's facilities for some time.
Vincent told Fairfax NZ "we already owned the gym and thought the pool would be a good cross-training facility for members as well.
“And also we knew water space was in short supply in Hamilton so it would be used for lots of different reasons."
When the previous building needed to be earthquake enforced, the business' landlord Victor Matijasevich agreed to develop the facilities.
The project was rolled out in two stages - first the gym, which includes a cafe, and now the pool.
The pool area includes a counter swim pool, hydrotherapy, and a wet weights area.
Shane Vincent added “by diversifying into a pool we're sort of capturing another market.”
He saw a gap in the market because there is no covered pool in the Hamilton CBD and the city's main swimming facilities are owned by the Hamilton City Council.
However, users do not have to be gym members to use the pool and concession cards were available.
Fastlane Fitness also offers the latest gym and cardio equipment, a 30 metre lunge/sprint track and separate strength area with the owners proud to offer fun, friendly and motivating facility.
